Grey rock on the shore is a common sight in the breathtaking Scandinavian landscape. It could be argued that when the Creator fashioned the earth, Scandinavia was the last region to be formed. As described in the biblical book of Genesis, “And God said, Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear. And it was so. God called the dry ground land, and the gathered waters he called seas. And God saw that it was good.”
In this divine act, it is conceivable that Scandinavia found itself at the tail end, perhaps resulting in a hasty separation of land and water, leaving the task unfinished. Consequently, rocks, the sturdy building blocks of the Earth’s crust, encircle bodies of water. The grey rocks lining the shore cast their reflection upon the tranquil waters, gazing at their mirrored image as if in a trance. The interplay between their view and reflection creates a mesmerising duplication, resembling a colossal caterpillar or a slumbering dragon basking lazily by the water’s edge. The enigmatic black reflection adds an intriguing allure to the scene, captivating our imagination.
Now, let us release our minds from the realm of fantasy and delve into the hidden secrets concealed within white and grey rock, within great stones. Rock drawing ideas leave me not free, as I see rocks on every day basis. In Östergotland, Sweden, the landscape is shaped by rocks. Some of them are huge. Many of them are huge, so that they draw the horizon line. This is a reminder of the Ice Age, when the growing ice pushed through huge amounts of rock. That’s what geologists say.
