Waterlily

The drawing shows a waterlily and its leaves floating on water. Their long stems are underwater, growing from the bottom of the lake. The flowers sway gently on the water. They seem to want to swim, to float around the lake. However, they are held back by their long stems. They are like anchors for these beautiful boats. The water lily motif is very popular. The most famous water lilies are those that grew in the garden of the French impressionist Claude Monet. The painter painted a series of huge paintings depicting these flowers. He transferred whole stretches of ponds covered with these plants onto canvas. The waterlily present in this drawing does not grow in anyone’s garden. Or if I stick with the word garden – they grow in nature’s garden, in a Scandinavian lake. They decorate its deep, crystalline water.
