Stonehenge hidden in lake portrays an enigmatic and hidden scene that leaves the viewer asking questions. Containing elements of light and shadow, the artwork plays upon their tension to create a deeply layered yet subtle sense of atmosphere. The very word stonehenge – is it not too bold in the title of this little picture? The inspiration for this piece comes from Scandinavian landscapes. Anyone who has visited this part of Europe at least once knows that each of the Scandinavian countries has many lakes surrounded by rocky coastlines. Forests grow on this hard, seemingly inhospitable soil. Trees lean over the shores. The pine trees show that they can find a place to grow even on the bare rocks themselves. They wrap their roots around them, cling tenaciously to this substrate, and withstand strong winds and blizzards. The bottom of the lake is also stony. At the shores, where it is not yet too deep, the rocky, uneven surface of the bottom can be seen. In some lakes, archipelagos of small stone islands are visible. They look like the tops of a sunken mysterious circle of Stonehenge, creating a kind of Stonehenge gallery. They stimulate the imagination. One can imagine the people who were here before us. Perhaps the landscape of this place looked different. Maybe there was an important place of worship here, where the lake at stonehenge is. Who was involved in stonehenge creation? Perhaps the whole community of people who lived there at the time? The grouping of huge stones in one place according to a planned spinning – this is work not for a few people. The sight of this rock architecture raises many questions to which we do not know the answers and may never know them.
