Drawings are an art form that has been around for thousands of years. It is a way to express yourself through the use of lines and shapes. The most important thing when doing this type of art is to keep in mind the idea behind the piece. This will allow you to focus on the subject matter and not worry about how well you draw. And especially when the subject of the drawing is the roots. It’s the part of the plant that we can’t see, it’s hidden underground. Its structure is so dense that in a drawing I can only show it in simplified shapes. I think artists have struggled with the same problem for centuries – how to express the complications of forms and structures created by nature. Whatever the tool, be it a pencil, pen, or charcoal – the problem remains. Some artists opt for a realistic or hyper-realistic method. This requires great accuracy in drawing. I chose a different method – my drawings are often a semiabstract composition that refers to the impression of roots. By calling my drawing semiabstract, I am entering the broad field of considering abstract art. In the popular understanding of abstraction – it is an art that does not represent. And can an artist not represent anything at all? He always draws from his sensations and experiences, from images he has seen somewhere and sometime.

Drawing Roots

Drawing roots can be an imaginary trip underground. Will we meet the dwarves we heard about when we were children? The human imagination reaches into areas that are invisible on a daily basis. One would like to write – unexplored. But thanks to the work of biologists, we already know a great deal about what goes on underground, between the roots of plants. And yet this subterranean world tempts. We populate it with good or bad creatures – as a warning to the real world. Drawing roots is an activity that can provoke many different reflections.
