The bird nest is hidden in the grass. Three eggs were carefully laid on the soft ground of the round nest. Some bird has made this nest and laid eggs. I don’t know what this bird looks like, or what species it represents. I painted the nest as we usually imagine it when we think of a ‘bird’s nest’. I also did not intend to be as accurate as the illustrators of biology books. I want to depict the moment when I am walking through a meadow, stepping in the tall grasses, and suddenly I stand still, hold my breath and gaze at the wonderful phenomenon that is the nest – the source of new life, for now still enclosed in eggshells. As we know, birds’ eggshells are colored in many ingenious ways. Nature is inventive in all its manifestations. In my painting, the eggs are blue. This color contrasts with the warm greens of the surroundings. This treatment helped me to express the contradiction between the bird’s efforts to hide its treasure as best it could and the fact that I had found it. This finding gave me a moment of happiness. I keep it inside me. I carefully move away so as not to frighten off the owners and creators of the nest – the birds. I still don’t know what they look like, or what species they are.
