Abstractionism in art – Black sunset

Black sunset

Abstractionism in art offers a captivating and profound experience through abstract paintings. These compositions, devoid of specific representations, serve as a medium for the artist’s emotions and allow viewers to connect their own experiences with the colors and forms presented.

Abstractionism in art is evident in abstract paintings, which are pure compositions of forms and colors that do not represent anything specific. These paintings serve as an expression of the artist’s emotional state, making them incredibly profound and open to various interpretations. This universality is what makes abstract paintings immensely popular, as viewers can connect their own experiences with the colors and forms presented.

However, there are also paintings that depict real scenes or situations while incorporating a certain level of abstractionism. Take, for example, the painting titled “Black Sunset.” The very title itself is abstract, as it seems peculiar to refer to a sunset as black. Yet, this is the beauty of contemporary art – the artist is free to present things in their own unique way, embracing their creative freedom. In this case, “Black Sunset” represents the moment of twilight, when the day is fading but the sun has not yet completely set. It captures the transition between light and darkness, symbolizing the completion of the day’s tasks and the accumulation of experiences.

Within this painting, one can still observe the abstract mosaic of the landscape, shaped by human intervention. The fields bear the marks of man’s plowing and pattern-making, which the earth has gracefully accepted, acknowledging their inherent beauty. As the sun sets, it casts its last muted rays of light, almost appearing black. Yet, it illuminates the parallel striations of the fields, creating a breathtaking moment that evokes a desire to hold onto it forever. It is a consolation to know that this spectacle will be repeated tomorrow, allowing us to remain open to the enchanting theater of nature. Not only sunset on the beach is magic.

Black sunset, oil on canvas, 130 x 100 cm, year of creation 2015

The first artwork, a drawing titled “Sunrise,” was created in 2015, the same year as the painting “Black Sunset” was created. This drawing served as my inspiration for the subsequent painting. The title of the drawing signifies the commencement of a new day, while the painting symbolizes its conclusion. The day, with its cyclical nature, holds a certain sanctity, and the light portrayed in these artworks serves as an expression of this sacredness. It is crucial for us to appreciate each day bestowed upon us and to make the most of it, from the break of dawn to the setting of the sun.

The artwork “Sunrise” is a pen and ink piece, measuring 42 x 56 cm.

This artwork is part of a series of drawings that were created in 2015, and I have chosen to title it “Sunset Today.” When you observe my work, you will find yourself in the midst of a bright and sunny day, but remember that this moment will eventually come to an end. However, if you are fortunate enough to experience a sunny day, you will have the opportunity to witness the breathtaking beauty of a sunset. It is a chance to immerse yourself in the enchanting atmosphere of this fleeting moment.
